The TEC Center Makerspace is an expiremental makerspace which's goal is to achieve a sustainable business model that works in even the smallest town. Our approach is to incentivize community participation by creating many opportunities for members to get paid for their knowledge and leverage the knowledge of others. Earning opportunites are not limited to just teaching others, another way is by doing tasks for local businesses, entrepreneurs, or anyone that needs something done. The local nature of physical spaces increase trust and lowers the friction needed for collaboration and remuneration. Our hypothesis is that makerspaces could become economic and technological hubs of every community, keeping more of the skills and economic activity within our local areas by leveraging existing trust and social networks.
We will be doing a gradual rollout as the space gets more put together, starting in late August we will be taking applications from local high school students, allowing access as we have the capacity to. After we figure out how the dynamics of the space will work and get the membership managment software whipped into shape will open the space to paying customers(anyone not in high school). We hope to be open to anyone who wants to join before the end of 2016.
